Collage

A collage is an artwork made up of cut or torn materials glued to a surface. A collage is made by assembling different forms and shapes to create an image. The word collage comes from the French word coller which means to glue. 

How to make a collage

Materials:

  • Magazines or catalogs

  • Scissors

  • Paper

  • Glue

What to do:

  1. Cut out pieces from magazines or catalogs. Look for images, colors, and patterns you like. 

  2. Choose a theme for your collage.

  3. Draw a picture or design onto the paper. 

  4. Place the pieces of magazines on the background paper.

  5. Glue the pieces to the paper.

There are many subjects or themes for a collage. Here are some ideas.

Landscape Collage (mountains, trees, oceans, or other natural scenery)

Animal Collage (dog, cat, bird, or zoo animal)

Home Collage (inside or outside image of a home)

Seasons Collage (Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter)

Holiday Collage (Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentine's Day)

Person Collage (yourself, someone you know, or any person)

Still life (fruit or flowers)

Animal Journal

Make a journal about animals. Research about animals from books and online and then write some facts about the animal in your journal. Draw a picture of the animal. Use this book to help you learn how to draw some animals.

Holiday Crafts

Make a craft with a holiday theme. Create something to give someone as a holiday gift. There are many ideas online or in books for holiday crafts. Check out our website Festive Fun Days.

Art Show

Have an art show at your home. Send an email to family, friends, and neighbors with the date, time, and place the art show will be held and inviting them to enter their artwork. Hang drawings, paintings, and photography on the walls of a room. Display clay creations, ceramics, and handicrafts on tables. Label each artwork with the title and the artist's name on a small piece of paper to place by each artwork. Serve refreshments like juice and cookies. Everyone will enjoy looking at the artwork and talking with each other.
